Justice Abdu lhamid Yakubu of the Gombe State High Court sentenced Abdulwahab A. Magaji and Salihu Musa to nine years in prison for employment fraud on May 13, 2024. Magaji faced a one-count charge of employment scam, while Musa was charged with intent to defraud and conspiracy.
The charges revealed that between January and December 2023, Magaji defrauded Hajia Hauwa Ali of N7,800,000, claiming it was for a job at the Ministry of Health in Gombe. Musa was involved in making false documents, including bank cards, intending to defraud.
Both defendants pleaded guilty, leading the prosecution to request a conviction. Magaji was sentenced to three years or a N30,000 fine, while Musa received six years or a N60,000 fine, with both ordered to forfeit their fraudulent gains.
This case underscores the ongoing efforts of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to combat fraud in Nigeria.
