Abdul Mukit & Sawrupananda Mohanta Arrested with Heroin

In a swift operation by the Anti-Narcotic Task Force (ANTF) East Khasi Hills, two drug peddlers were apprehended today in the Mawlai area of Shillong. The arrested individuals, identified as Abdul Mukit (43) from Siverchak, Kamramganj, Assam, and Sawrupananda Mohanta (38) from Mohanpur, P.T-II, Cachar, Assam, were caught transporting illegal drugs.

The arrests followed credible intelligence that led to a successful interception of the duo’s Tata Sumo vehicle. Police intercepted the vehicle as it was traveling from Guwahati towards Shillong, near the Banalari Showroom in Mawlai.

Upon searching the vehicle, authorities recovered five soap boxes containing suspected heroin weighing approximately 57.51 grams. Additionally, the police seized four mobile phones, a voter ID card, a PAN card, two ATM cards, and a driving license from the suspects.

The arrested individuals are now in police custody, and a case has been registered at Mawlai Police Station. Further investigation is currently underway to uncover more details about their drug trafficking network.

East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police, Sylvester Nongtnger, praised the joint operation carried out by the ANTF and Mawlai Police for their commitment to eradicating drug trafficking within the state. The success of this operation is a testament to the ongoing efforts by local authorities to combat illegal drug trade in the region.
