ELLETTSVILLE, Ind. — Former Ellettsville Police Department reserve officer Aaron Waltz has been arrested and charged with two counts of counterfeiting, both Level 6 felonies, following an investigation into falsified insurance documents used to secure lawncare contracts.
According to court documents, Bloomington police launched an investigation on May 8 after a representative from First Insurance Group reported that Waltz had used outdated policy numbers to forge insurance documents. These documents were allegedly submitted to secure business for his company, Aaron’s Lawncare and Maintenance.
The investigation began when Orion Property Management, one of Waltz’s clients, reached out to verify the authenticity of his insurance coverage. First Insurance Group confirmed Waltz did not hold an active policy.
Court records indicate that in July 2024, Orion Properties contracted Waltz for lawncare services at a property in Bedford, Indiana. At that time, he provided what appeared to be a valid certificate of insurance. However, it was later determined to be fraudulent.
In May, Waltz reportedly provided an updated version of the same certificate, still using the fraudulent policy number.
When interviewed by police, Waltz admitted to forging the insurance documents in order to maintain his business accounts.
Waltz is no longer employed with the Ellettsville Police Department as of May 22. His initial court hearing is scheduled for June 6.
Ellettsville is located approximately eight miles northwest of Bloomington in Monroe County. 13News has contacted the police department for a statement but has not yet received a response.
