HORRY COUNTY, S.C. – A former Horry County teacher is facing serious drug charges after allegedly being caught with drugs on school grounds, authorities said.
On Friday, 50-year-old Aaron Musick was arrested and charged with possession with intent to distribute crack cocaine near a school, according to jail records.
Arrest at Waterway Elementary
Musick was a physical education teacher at Waterway Elementary in Little River before his arrest on March 8. School officials noticed his concerning behavior and contacted Horry County Police, leading to his immediate arrest on campus, according to Lisa Bourcier, spokesperson for Horry County Schools.
Following the incident, Musick was placed on administrative leave, banned from all school properties, and later resigned from his position on Monday. Despite his resignation, the school’s website still listed him as a teacher as of Monday afternoon.
Community Concerns
Musick posted a $25,000 bond on Sunday, but the incident has sparked concerns among parents.
One parent, Amanda, expressed relief that no students were harmed. “I’m really glad that no students were hurt and that they were able to remove him from the situation,” she said.
Another parent suggested implementing random drug tests for school employees, stating: “Anybody can pass a drug test when they get hired. I used to be a firefighter—we got random drug tests all the time.”
School District Policy
Horry County Schools enforces a strict no-drug and alcohol policy on all campuses. All new hires undergo extensive background checks and drug screenings, but the district does not currently conduct random drug tests throughout employment.
The case remains under investigation.
