SINGAPORE — On Thursday, Singapore’s high court sentenced former Transport Minister S. Iswaran to one year in prison for his role in a bribery case that has shocked the nation. The case has drawn significant attention in a country long known for its strict anti-corruption measures.
Judge Vincent Hoong, who read the verdict, emphasized that individuals in high office must hold themselves to the highest standards of integrity. “Holders of high office set the tone for public servants, and must avoid any perception of being influenced by financial benefits,” he stated.
Iswaran’s conviction has sent a strong message about the government’s commitment to upholding public trust, even among those at the highest levels of power.
