Two Men Arrested After Stolen Car Detected by San Mateo Flock Camera

Police use spike strips to apprehend suspects with stolen vehicle and plates

by Sophia Bennett

Two Peninsula men were taken into custody on Tuesday after a Flock camera system in San Mateo flagged a stolen vehicle. The alert was triggered around 6:50 p.m. as a silver Honda Accord entered the Los Prados neighborhood, prompting officers to investigate.

Police quickly located the car heading north on South Norfolk Street and noticed it had a different rear license plate. As officers attempted a traffic stop, the driver sped onto Highway 101, leading police on a brief chase.

Officers deployed spike strips, which punctured the car’s front tires and brought it to a stop near Kehoe Avenue and Norton Street. Both occupants were detained, and a search of the vehicle uncovered multiple stolen license plates, including the one recently taken from a nearby car.

Authorities identified the driver as Steven Ramey, 40, of South San Francisco. He faces multiple charges, including vehicle theft and committing a felony while out on bail. The passenger, Gustavo Meza, 36, of San Mateo, was also arrested and is facing charges for possession of a stolen vehicle and drug-related offenses.
