A 34-year-old man of Spanish nationality has been arrested by agents of the National Police in Sagunto, Valencia, as an alleged perpetrator of ongoing fraud. The man is accused of using references from the company that laid him off in 2022 to continue refueling at a gas station. The estimated economic loss for the company due to these fraudulent activities amounts to €15,666.
According to the police, the suspect carried out a total of 152 refueling transactions and managed to store 25 cans of gasoline. Investigators discovered that he even contacted third parties, offering to fill their fuel tanks at a lower price than the market rate, claiming to have tax advantages “for being independent.”
The investigation began several months ago when the former employer noticed an unjustified increase in vehicle fueling bills. This prompted the company to report the suspected scam to the National Police in Sagunto, resulting in a formal complaint for a total of €15,666.
Officers linked the former employee to the scam after discovering that he continued to use the credentials he had while employed by the company, despite being fired two years ago. The suspect allegedly forged signatures to attribute the fraudulent transactions to other workers at the company. He is now facing charges for the crime of ongoing fraud.
