In a major drug trafficking operation, two individuals were arrested and a significant quantity of smack was seized during a vehicle inspection drive conducted by Mufassil Police in Bihar’s Purnea district on Thursday. The incident took place around 2:15 a.m. on the NH-31 flyover at Balouri village when a grey Swift car, approaching from the Maranga side, slowed down upon spotting the police and attempted to flee.
One of the occupants of the vehicle exited and tried to escape on foot but was apprehended with the help of the police team. After questioning, the suspects identified themselves as Raunak Kumar, a resident of Khushki Bagh near Sadar, Purnea, and Ricky Singh, from Neva Lal Chowk in Maranga, Purnea.
Upon conducting a detailed search of the vehicle, police discovered 5.19 kg of smack packed in 50 plastic bags within a specially designed box in the car. The seized contraband is valued at approximately Rs 5 crore in the international market.
Both individuals were immediately taken into custody, and the operation, led by Brajesh Kumar, Station House Officer (SHO) of Mufassil Police Station, has been hailed as a significant success in the fight against drug trafficking in the region. An FIR under the NDPS Act has been filed, and the investigation is ongoing as police work to identify the suspects’ handlers.
Earlier on Thursday, a separate operation by the East Champaran Police and the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) resulted in the arrest of five individuals who were caught with refined heroin and chemicals used in brown sugar production. This operation led to the seizure of 2 kg of contraband and a chemical valued at Rs 7 crore in the international market.
As law enforcement continues to target drug trafficking networks across Bihar, these recent busts serve as a reminder of the region’s ongoing battle with narcotics trade and its significant impact on public safety.
