In a significant breakthrough, law enforcement officials in Mangaluru have arrested two individuals connected to a major cyber fraud case that led to financial losses amounting to Rs77,96,322.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Ummer Valia Parambath (41) and Riyaz M V (45), both from Kerala.
The case, registered at the Central Economic Crime (CEN) Police Station, details a sophisticated scheme involving deceptive promises of high returns from stock market investments. The fraudsters used WhatsApp to lure victims, claiming substantial dividends from their investments. However, the funds were siphoned off in phases, revealing the scam’s complex nature.
The investigation began after a local complainant reported being misled by the fraudsters. After careful inquiry, the police discovered that Rs26,27,114 was transferred to an individual in West Bengal, who then facilitated a transfer of Rs6,00,000 to Parambath in Kerala.
With this crucial information, investigators focused their efforts on tracking the Kerala-based suspects involved in the fraudulent transactions. Their efforts culminated in the identification and arrest of the two men, whose identities have not been fully disclosed due to ongoing investigations. They were presented before the Court, where legal proceedings will continue.
The operation was carried out under the direction of Mangaluru City Police Commissioner Anupam Agrawal, IPS, with support from Deputy Commissioners of Police Law & Order Siddharth Goel and DCP Crime & Traffic Ravishankar. ACP Ravish Nayak led the investigation, assisted by Station Police Inspector Satish M P and Sub-Inspector of Police Gurappa Kanti.
