Eight individuals were arrested on Friday by Telangana’s cybercrime police for trafficking unemployed youths to cybercrime gangs in Myanmar. The arrests followed an investigation where the authorities had earlier registered nine cases related to the scam.
The arrested suspects include Allepu Venkatesh, 34, and Challa Mahesh, 37, both residents of Jagtial, as well as Mohammed Jalal, 33, from Falaknuma, and Bomma Vasanth Kumar, 32, from BN Reddy Nagar. Also arrested were Dasari Eknath Goud, 29, from Badangpet, Katanguri Sai Kiran, 27, from Vemulawada, H. Basheer Ahmed, 40, from Bahadurpura, and Gajula Abhishek, 23, from Bandlaguda.
The victims, who were lured by fake job offers, were forced into committing cybercrimes for Myanmar-based gangs. Following the arrests, police revealed that seven more agents are still on the run, with five of them believed to be abroad. Earlier this week, 24 youths were repatriated from Myanmar, shedding light on the scale of the trafficking operation.
The Telangana Cyber Security Bureau’s crackdown follows the successful repatriation of the victims and aims to dismantle the trafficking ring exploiting vulnerable individuals.
