75-Year-Old Man Caught with $930K in Cocaine at TX Border

DEL RIO, TX — U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers seized over $930,000 worth of cocaine at the Del Rio Port of Entry during a routine vehicle inspection, according to a CBP announcement.

On May 9, officers referred a 75-year-old male driver of a Chevrolet Captiva for a secondary inspection. During the inspection, CBP discovered 69.71 pounds of cocaine hidden in packages inside the SUV’s seat compartments. The estimated street value of the narcotics is $930,766.

“This significant narcotic seizure emphasizes the steadfast commitment our officers have to keeping our community safe,” said Port Director Liliana Flores. “These types of seizures reinforce the importance of CBP’s mission to secure our borders.”

Following the discovery, Texas Department of Public Safety officers arrested the driver, and CBP seized both the vehicle and the narcotics.

An investigation into the incident is ongoing.
