Six people have been arrested on Thursday in connection with the brutal murder of 24-year-old Sumanta Sahoo, who was attacked in Banki area of Cuttack district. The attack occurred on Wednesday evening as Sahoo was returning home from the Makara Mela at Bada Bandiani Thakurani temple in Tigiria.
According to police reports, a group of 12 individuals intercepted Sahoo at Chatari Pond Bridge, where a verbal altercation escalated into a violent assault. “The attackers left Sahoo bleeding on the road after beating him with sticks,” said Prateek Singh, Superintendent of Police, Cuttack Rural.
Family members rushed Sahoo to SCB Medical College and Hospital, but he was declared dead upon arrival. The arrested suspects have been identified as Naresh Swain (32), Pranabandhu Swain (28), Rakesh Roul (27), Dinesh Rout (25), Rakesh Swain (26), and Susanta Kumar Rout (30), all residents of Gobindapur village.
“The post-mortem has been conducted, and the body has been handed over to the family,” Singh added. “Special teams have been deployed to apprehend the remaining suspects, and we expect to make more arrests soon.”
The police are continuing their investigation, working to bring the remaining individuals involved in this crime to justice.
