In a significant breakthrough, five individuals, including the main accused Harash, were arrested in connection with the murder of Sumit Jandiyal, the 37-year-old kingpin of the notorious Gataro gang. Jandiyal was shot dead on January 21 in Jammu city by members of a rival gang.
The police launched a high-profile operation to apprehend the murderers and, through joint efforts with the Delhi Police Crime Branch, successfully arrested Harash, Arun, Ajay, and two other supporters, Abihay and Raj, near ISBT in New Delhi on Sunday. The accused were attempting to escape to Nepal after committing the crime, the police revealed.
The trio—Harash, Arun, and Ajay—are confirmed to have been involved in the shooting of Jandiyal, with Harash identified as the main perpetrator. The Gataro gang leader was intercepted by three assailants near Jewel Chowk in Jammu, where he was shot four times. The critically injured Jandiyal was rushed to the Government Medical College Hospital, but doctors declared him dead on arrival.
Following the joint operation, the arrested individuals were handed over to Jammu and Kashmir Police, and further investigations are underway. Authorities are continuing to gather more details and have sought remand for the accused.
This arrest marks a major step forward in solving the case, and the police are hopeful of uncovering further information about the rival gangs operating in the region.
