In a major breakthrough, Cachar Police successfully busted an inter-state car lifter gang involved in the murder of a truck driver in Churachandpur, Manipur. Police arrested five individuals, including the main accused Amal Paul, Baktiar Hussain Laskar, Sanjib Ahmed Laskar, Dilwar Hussain Laskar, and Saharul Islam Laskar, who are charged with the brutal killing of Bidhan Dutta, a truck driver from Hailakandi.
The incident occurred on January 3, when Dutta went missing while transporting goods to Churachandpur. His disappearance was reported by Guwahati-based trader Ram Bahadur Gupta. Despite a search by his family, Dutta’s whereabouts remained a mystery until a police investigation led to the discovery of his body.
The investigation, led by a Special Investigation Team (SIT) and headed by Additional SP (Crime) and O/C Silchar Sadar, uncovered the shocking details. The arrested suspects admitted that they had stolen the truck, concealed it at the Assam-Mizoram border, and later killed Dutta out of a financial dispute between him and the main accused, Amal Paul, who was his cousin. Dutta’s body was found near a toll gate in Lumshlnong, Meghalaya.
The gang sold the goods to one Aseb Hussain Barbhuiya of Srikona for Rs 5.8 lakh. Further arrests were made, including Aseb Hussain Barbhuiya and Tafijul Hussain Barbhuiya. Authorities also recovered the stolen truck near the Assam-Mizoram border.
Lawful actions are underway as the police continue their investigation to dismantle the entire network.
