The Special Enquiry Squad of Bengaluru’s Central Crime Branch (CCB) has arrested 48 individuals involved in a scam concerning the direct recruitment for second division assistants in the Water Resources Department (WRD). Among those arrested are three government employees and 37 candidates who submitted fake documents to secure jobs in the WRD .
In October 2022, the Water Resources Department had invited online applications to fill 182 backlog ‘C’ group posts. However, it was later discovered that 62 candidates had submitted counterfeit Class 12 marks cards to meet the eligibility criteria. A police complaint was filed on July 28, 2023, after department officials uncovered the fraudulent submissions, prompting the case to be handed over to the CCB.

Additionally, 11 middlemen were arrested from Hassan , Mandya ,Jewargi , **VijayapuraVijayapura , KGF , Bengaluru , **SShivamogga ,Tumakuru. These middlemen ran a network that produced fake marks cards for Class 12, including CBSE and NIOS boards. The fraudulent marks cards were used by ineligible candidates to apply for jobs, displacing genuine applicants.
The scam involved 62 candidates from 12 districts, including 25 from Kalaburagi, 12 from Hassan, and smaller numbers from other areas like Belagavi , Bidar, and Vijayanagar. The CCB has arrested 37 of these individua
During the investigation, police recovered 17 mobile phones, a computer hard disk, and other valuables worth Rs40 lakh.
