3 Women Arrested in Rs40,000 Theft Case at Punjab National Bank, Mehatpur

In a significant breakthrough, Jalandhar Rural Police have arrested four individuals, including three women, in connection with a Rs40,000 theft at Punjab National Bank’s Mehatpur branch. The police operation was part of a broader initiative to combat local crime, specifically narcotics trafficking, while also addressing thefts in the area.

The accused have been identified as Ananya and Saloni from Madhya Pradesh, Bhavna from Rajasthan, and Devinder Sharma from Ludhiana. The arrests follow a complaint filed by Jasbir Kaur, an elderly woman, on August 27. Kaur reported that she had been robbed of Rs40,000 by a woman inside the bank, who then fled the scene in an autorickshaw.

Following the complaint, the police acted swiftly. The team, led by Inspector Jaipal from Mehatpur Police Station and under the supervision of Onkar Singh Brar, reviewed CCTV footage from the bank and surrounding areas. This evidence was key in tracking the suspects’ movements and identifying the vehicle used in the crime.

By tracing the autorickshaw, the police successfully apprehended the suspects. Further investigation revealed that two of the accused had prior criminal records. Bhavna had three theft cases registered against her in two different districts, while Ananya had one previous theft case in Ludhiana.

The police also seized the autorickshaw used in the crime. The suspects were produced before the court, and investigations are ongoing to determine whether they are linked to other criminal activities in the region.
