25-Year-Old Pankaj and Associates Arrested for Attempted Robbery in Delhi

A 25-year-old man and his two associates were arrested for allegedly planning a robbery in Pitampura, northwest Delhi, to raise money for alimony payments to his ex-wife, as stated by the police on Monday.

The accused, identified as Pankaj (25), Rama Swami (28), and Abhishek (26), attempted to rob Kamlesh Arora, a 72-year-old woman, at gunpoint inside her home. According to the police, the incident occurred on March 31 around 3:30 pm, while the victim was alone at her residence.

One of the suspects gained entry into Arora’s home by pretending to deliver a courier, and attempted to choke her. Soon after, another accomplice entered brandishing a country-made pistol. However, the situation was quickly averted when the victim’s daughter emerged and locked the door, causing the assailants to flee.

The trio managed to escape on a motorcycle, but Maurya Enclave police station teams launched an investigation, scanning CCTV footage and conducting multiple raids. The police eventually apprehended Pankaj and Rama Swami. A motorcycle, a pistol, and the clothes worn during the crime were recovered from the suspects.

During questioning, Pankaj confessed that he had orchestrated the robbery in an attempt to gather money for his alimony payments following his divorce. He and his associates had been monitoring the movements of the elderly woman.

Further investigation led to the arrest of Abhishek, the third accomplice. Police also revealed that Pankaj and Abhishek had previous criminal records related to theft and gambling, while Rama Swami had no prior criminal history.
