A 23-year-old man has been arrested in Belfast in connection with the fatal stabbing of Quam Babatunde, 34, in Dublin at the weekend. The incident occurred near Grafton Street in Dublin city centre during the early hours of Saturday morning.
Babatunde, who was in the Irish asylum-seeking system, tragically died after being stabbed in the South Anne Street area, close to Grafton Street. The suspect was detained on Sunday as he was preparing to board a ferry to Liverpool, according to Irish broadcaster RTÉ.
Two other men, both in their 20s, were arrested by gardaí (Irish police) in Dublin on Monday in relation to the stabbing. Although a post-mortem examination has been completed, gardaí have stated that the results will not be disclosed for operational reasons.
In addition to Babatunde’s tragic death, another individual, a man aged in his 30s, was seriously injured in the incident and was transported to a hospital for treatment.
Gardaí are appealing to the public for any information about the attack. They are particularly seeking mobile phone recordings or dashcam footage from people who may have been in the vicinity of Dawson Street and St. Stephen’s Green at the time of the incident. Anyone with relevant information is urged to contact the authorities.
