18-Year-Old Arrested for Car Theft and Related Charges in Southwest D.C.

WASHINGTON (DC News Now) — An 18-year-old has been arrested for car theft after a police chase in Southwest D.C. on Wednesday evening.

According to the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD), officers attempted to stop a suspicious vehicle around 6:30 p.m. in the 1500 block of South Capitol St. The driver, identified as Jaylen Young, fled the scene but crashed the vehicle shortly afterward in the 100 block of T St. SE. While the passenger managed to escape, Young was arrested at the scene.

MPD detectives determined that the car had been stolen from Southwest D.C. In addition to the stolen vehicle, officers found items taken from other cars inside the vehicle.

Young was charged with multiple offenses, including theft of an auto, no permit, unauthorized use of a vehicle, leaving after colliding, fleeing from law enforcement, theft from a motor vehicle, receiving stolen property, and two counts of unlawful entry into a motor vehicle.
