12 Arrested in Punjab’s Drug Raids; 640 Grams of Heroin Seized

Punjab police conducted major raids across various locations on Wednesday, leading to the arrest of 12 drug peddlers, including a woman. The raids were part of the state’s ongoing ‘war against drugs’ initiative. Authorities seized 640 grams of heroin, 117 intoxicating tablets, and 45 grams of opium.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Abhimanyu Rana stated that the Goindwal Sahib police dismantled a five-member drug and arms smuggling gang. During the raid, Mohan Singh was arrested, while Akashdeep Singh, Ranjit Singh, Sandeep Singh Seepa, and Gurpreet Singh Gopi remain at large. The gang has been charged under the NDPS Act and Arms Act.

Further operations saw Patti city police, led by Sub-Inspector Manpreet Kaur, arresting Kulwinder Kaur, Lovepret Singh, Heera Singh, and Jujbir Singh. The police recovered 100 grams of heroin from their possession.

In a separate joint operation with the BSF, the Valtoha police seized 509 grams of heroin in Sankattra border village. The heroin, concealed with 23 grams of packing material, was reportedly sent via drone from across the India-Pakistan border.

Additionally, Amanpreet Singh Abhi and Baljit Singh, both from Fatehbad village, were arrested while consuming heroin. Other arrests included Lakhbir Singh with 9 grams of heroin and Jora Singh with 2 grams of heroin, seized by Khemkaran police.

The state’s war on drugs continues with intensified efforts to curb the illegal drug trade and related crimes.
